Write To Ride is supporting and promoting the following initiatives: Ride It Right and Bikesafe Northern Ireland

We consider these to be a benefit to motorcycling whether concerned with motorcycle and riders safety or the positive promotion of motorcycling and motorcyclists.

Motorcyclists raise tens of thousands of pounds each year for various charities, you only have to look at our supporters websites to view the events they organise, from toy runs to rock nights for cancer research, hospital children’s units to animal sanctuary’s.

Thus we have decided that the charity that we would support and promote will be: The Joey Dunlop Foundation
 

The Joey Dunlop Foundation

William Joseph Dunlop, OBE, MBE., will long be remembered by bikers world wide and his many friends for his record breaking achievements on the famous Isle of Man TT Mountain circuit. 

A group of ardent Joey fans decided to approach his wife Linda, to seek her agreement to raise funds to construct a facility that would be of benefit to the community and also be a fitting memorial in recognition of the varied achievements of the person affectingly known as 'Yer Maun'.

It was during the initial discussions with Linda and Honda's Bob McMillan that it was revealed that Joey would have liked to have constructed a facility to benefit people, especially children, with a disability.

Suffering some set backs from the initial big fundraising boost at the 2001 TT,  which was to kick start the project but due to the foot and mouth disaster the TT was canceled, the Foundation pressed on.

Ride It Right

It is a fact that the majority of riders treat the coast road and other vehicle users with respect.

In our opinion, there is a minority of riders whose attitude is to use the coast road as a weekend race track and due to their actions, they may be perceived as the majority.

Although these riders’ actions are what are remembered by the public, residents and other users of the coast road, the majority of motorcyclists are not and should not be identified as “the problem”.

There are also many instances of reckless car drivers, ignoring traffic regulations and speed warnings.

We do not want to stop on the issues on the Antrim Coast Road and we look forward to expanding the idea by identifying  “biker routes” across the province with input from other riders - agencies and organisations.

To improve motorcycling in Northern Ireland especially on “Biker Routes”.

Bikesafe NI

PSNI Bikesafe rider skills assessment  is the perfect introduction to skills on Hazard Awareness - Defensive Riding Technique - Junction Awareness - Cornering - Overtaking.

The Bikesafe team take riders out on an assessed ride, their assessment is based on professional riding techniques and is designed to enhance the skills of riders who have already passed their test. 

Topics covered include how to control your bike, the common factors which lead to a collision and advise on how to become a safer, more competent rider.

All Bikesafe NI assessments are FREE!

Bikesafe NI is a Rider Skills Assessment – not Advanced Training.
